Ice-Core Science, Society, and the Debate on Climate Change

This paper will analyze how ice-core science contributed to a global conceptualization of the Earth's climate, and how this conceptualization, by introducing new scales of historic times, put the human experience in a completely new perspective. In addition, it will examine how national politics, especially in Switzerland and Denmark, interacted with ice-core science dedicated to measuring the human impact on the climate, and how ice-core science has eventually reshaped the debate on the earth’s climate.
