It is well known that the 17c saw the end of Aristotelian natural philosophy as the best description of the natural world. The established narrative mainly sees the «new science» in opposition to «monolithic» Aristotelianism. What is less known is that Aristotelian natural philosophy underwent important attempts to reform and innovate. This panel investigates how sub-disciplines of natural philosophy, such as medicine, prompted innovation and questioned tradition in the understanding of nature.
